Younger workers suffered most during recession

10 March 2010 In Graduates

University graduates may be among the group of young workers said to have been worst affected by the recession.

According to research from the Resolution Foundation, lower earners in the 25-34 age category struggled as they were overlooked in comparison to higher earners and those on benefits.

The Recruitment Society responded by claiming that employers could do more to help younger workers develop their career prospects.

Chairman Steve Huxham explained that government assistance for such employees may have come too late for some.

"From an employer point of view, for those people who are in work and are younger and on a lower income, there is always the issue of how much responsibility should be with the employer - particularly the larger ones - to train and develop their people," he said.

Mr Huxham added that while some employers are "very good at this", it is by no means common practice in the UK.ADNFCR-868-ID-19661708-ADNFCR
