Social networking and where to start

Writing on someone’s Superwall on Facebook or uploading photos to Flickr is a good way to kill time but did you know that networking online can help your career?

More and more websites are using the same principles as Bebo and Myspace which help professionals network online.

One of the most established is LinkedIn. On this site you create your profile and invite colleagues and people you’ve worked with in the past to join. As they invite others and the network grows so too does you’re ability to interact with people working in your industry who would previously been out of reach. As with all of the social networking sites it’s up to you how active and prolific you become.

MeetUp can be used for professional or social activities and is geared to putting you in touch with people who you can then physically meet. The idea is that you can find other people in your area who share an interest with you. GAAPweb have set-up our own group called “London Working in Accountancy”. We meet Accounting and Finance professionals in the London area and discuss the latest news and trends in the recruitment market, job hunting and any other topical issues. Sound interesting? Find out about our next meeting here.
