Job description

Cost Accountant

Job Purpose:

Working as part of the Project Accounting team reporting to the Senior Finance Manager – Commercial and Technology and Senior Finance Manager - Projects, this role will support the provision of effective financial control and monitoring of the Taiwan and VLU contracts. This role will require significant interaction with other project disciplines, eg planning, commercial, engineering, including at a senior level with the Project Leadership team.

Key Duties:

  • Support the provision of project financial reporting to corporate and project audiences, eg contract costs to date, forecast outturn, cash flow projections, margins, earned value analysis.
  • Financial and risk analysis including the preparation of project variance analysis reports highlighting status with regard to planned activity.
  • Support Project Managers and budget holders with the setting, control and management of budgets. Attend and present financial budget status at budget holder review meetings.
  • Work with the Project Managers and Commercial department in discharging the financial requirements of the contracts and supporting the preparation of any variations to the contract.
  • Ensure the accuracy and timeliness of information held within the financial and time recording systems, eg month end accrual, journal entries, reconciliations.
  • Raise payment applications to the client and ensure payments are received in line with contract terms.
  • Review and improve financial procedures and systems at the project site offices. Conduct audits of site offices to ensure that site accounting policies are adhered to.
  • Support the effectiveness of the overall project financial control framework. Promotion of financial and commercial awareness across the non-finance functions.

Essential Requirements:

  • Qualified Accountant.
  • Strong Excel skills.
  • Confident communicator – position will involve interaction at all levels and with non-finance professionals.
  • Self-motivated and able to work on own initiative.
  • Project (contract) accounting experience.
