Job description

Chief Financial Accountant
£40,000 - £45,000 + excellent benefits
Kew, West London

Expert in technical accounting? Here’s your chance to play an influential role in a unique organisation.

About the role

Reporting to our Head of Financial Accounting, you will provide advice and support on all aspects of technical accounting. This is a wide-ranging role that will see you supporting the production of key statutory reports (including our Annual Report and Resource Accounts), monitoring our financial controls, and liaising with external stakeholders. Acting as an internal source of expertise, you will provide both analysis and advice on the potential implications of proposed changes in accounting rules. You will also deputise for the Head of Financial Accounting where necessary and assist in the management of our six-strong Transaction Processing team.

About you

Equipped with a CCAB qualification (ideally ACA), you’ll have a strong track record in financial accounting already. You’ll have a sound grasp of current technical financial reporting rules and an in-depth knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). A confident and credible individual, you’ll know how to produce statutory financial statements and how to manage teams with a range of capabilities. Equally important, you’ll also know how to communicate complex financial matters to a non-technical audience. Experience of UK tax compliance would also be a real advantage.

About us

The National Archives is the high profile organisation that protects the UK’s official records – and works to make them as accessible as possible for everyone in society. Preserving over 1000 years of history, our unique collection ranges from parchments and manuscripts through to the documents and websites of the modern age. Our 650-strong team is dynamic, high-calibre and diverse, bringing together experts from a wide range of specialist backgrounds.
