Job description

Suttons Group is a growing business with an esteemed history and rapidly developing concerns on both domestic and international fronts. This Commercial Finance Manager position represents an outstanding opportunity for a commercially minded finance professional to develop their career within this successful logistics firm. Charged with supporting the Operational team on a crucial, business critical contract, the role will be both highly visible within Suttons Group and the client in question and carries significant responsibility to aid the integration of operations, deliver client objectives and add value to both sides of the operation. The contract in question is a major FTSE 100 PLC owned company with significant manufacturing operations across East Anglia. Working side by side with the Business Unit Manager and with significant exposure to Suttons Group senior management, success in this position could be quickly rewarded with increased responsibility and further opportunities to help direct growth of the group.

This is a highly visible, client-facing and value-adding role which offers the successful applicant the opportunity of making a real and tangible impact upon the commercial direction of the business.

Responsibilities include:

  • Preparation of budgets and preparation of quarterly forecast with regular re-forecasting in conjunction with client.
  • Support the Business Unit Manager in decision-making with timely insightful data analysis and explanation.
  • Project appraisal utilising investment techniques to accurately reflect profitability and minimising financial risk and exposure.
  • Develop in-house reporting to give clarity and accuracy to operational management.
  • Full participation in quarterly reviews with customer.
  • Preparation of open book weekly cost statements with full variance analysis. Responsible for monthly accounts preparation and reconciliation of ledgers.
  • Balance sheet control and reconciliation.
  • Aid integration of company cultures, systems and operations in order to develop future business opportunities between both parties.

Who we're looking for:

  • A qualified Accountant (CIMA/ACCA/ACA).
  • Experience of Logistics and/or Open Book contract experience would be desirable but not essential.
  • Excellent presentation skills both written and verbal.
  • The confidence and ability to report on and back results and findings, both to a major client on behalf of Suttons Group, and internally within the business.
  • Strong Excel skills and experience of financial modelling would be desirable.
  • Experience of systems improvement would be beneficial.

With over 80 years experience in transport, storage and bulk logistics worldwide, Suttons Group has developed to become one of the UK's largest, privately owned, specialist logistics companies, providing solutions for an impressive customer portfolio.

Suttons Group has three divisions - Suttons Tankers, Suttons International and Suttons Distribution. Group revenues for 2008/09 increased to £100 million, an increase of 14.5% over the previous year wholly attributable to organic sales growth. Although a global business, Suttons has retained the core values of safety in operation, integrity, customer service and flexibility that have sustained its growth and success in its key business sectors.

From the Group headquarters in Widnes, Cheshire and through key business centres across the world, Sutton's customers have access to a highly professional team of people and the resources and facilities to provide logistics solutions to optimise supply chains in global markets.
