Business & Finance Director

FACT (Foundation for Art & Creative Technology) is the UK's leading organisation for the commissioning & presentation of film, video & new media art forms.

Who are we Looking For?

We are looking for a candidate with a track record of success in business or the accountancy profession. A qualified Accountant would be preferable but not essential with the right proven track record. He/she will be used to working in an adaptable, changeable environment & therefore have a flexible approach to work. A solid leader you will have strong negotiating skills & the ability to represent FACT well & promote the business to the best advantage. Managing detail will be a key quality, with an ability to provide strong leadership on business strategy & financial management. The post holder will be able to constantly adapt to the challenges of managing & controlling growth, ensuring FACT remains sustainable & that the business activity supports & protects the artistic programme. The successful candidate will be focused & able to deal with a complex organisation. They will possess good interpersonal skills, able to forge strong relationships both externally & internally including with the various funding agencies, trusts & foundations that support FACT. He/she will be tenacious, detailed, self-motivated & keen to develop a successful career within the business through their strong contribution to financial success.

Key Responsibilities Include:
  • To support & advise the Director/CEO in the development of infrastructure necessary to successfully implement commercial, creative & business activities developing robust administration system.
  • Ensuring effective financial & organisational governance processes to maximise performance & support further income generation being directly responsible & accountable to the Board for financial performance.
  • Undertaking Company secretarial duties working in partnership with the Director/CEO to ensure clarity of direction & operational effectiveness.
  • Developing finances within departments & recommending the yearly budgets for Board approval. Prudently managing the organisation's resources within those budget guidelines & reporting any areas of concern immediately to the Director/CEO.
  • Working closely with the Fundraising team to monitor their target achievement, contributing personally with high-level fundraising research & development.
  • Responsible for all aspects of the monthly management & financial information for the Organisation. This includes analysis, interpretation & presentation of management information to the Board.
  • Developing sustainable practices & process, which underpin the future growth of the business, taking the lead in implementation & ensuring that the models & practices are complied with throughout the organisation.
  • Providing business & financial leadership to the Senior Management team in line with sound commercial & risk management practises.
Essential
  • Experience at a senior level of financial management with strong technical skills in accounting & IT.
  • Significant general managerial experience with strong business development skills.
  • Ability to represent the organisation, negotiate & manage third party relationships & partnerships at the highest level.
  • Experience at a senior level of corporate governance, risk assessment & risk management.
  • A commitment to & enthusiasm for working in a creative environment.
Desirable
  • Chartered Accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA) or other similar professional qualification.
  • Knowledge or experience of publicly funded environments.
  • Knowledge or experience of charitable organisations with a commercial trading arm & the relevant laws, regulations & guidelines.
