Job description

The Intellectual Property Office (IPO) is the official Government body responsible for granting Intellectual Property rights in the UK. They promote innovation by providing a clear, accessible and widely understood IP system, which enables the economy and society to benefit from knowledge and ideas. An Executive Agency of the Department for Business Innovation and Skills, the IPO is funded through commercial and rights granting activities, such as the awarding of UK patents.

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Finance Director focused on enhancing the overall value for money to customers. You will be responsible for the overall stewardship of the IPO’s finances, the continuous improvement of the efficient use of financial resources across the Office, and the ultimate effective control of the budget including project and capital expenditure.

Reporting to the Chief Executive and as a member of the executive board, you will:

  • Lead on the IPO’s Corporate Plan ensuring alignment between the objectives of the business and deployment of its resources.
  • Manage the IPO’s Procurement function.
  • Drive finance towards becoming a Business Partnering team.
  • Build successful working arrangements with key stakeholders including BIS, NAO and other service delivery organisations.

The successful individual will be a fully qualified Accountant with significant post qualified experience operating successfully at a senior management level in an organisation of similar or larger turnover and complexity. You will have strong financial and programme management skills, be an established Team Leader and board collaborator with outstanding influencing skills across all levels of internal and external partners. You will be tenacious, analytical in your approach and committed to ensuring that The Intellectual Property Office are at the forefront of positive financial change during the current challenging economic times.
