Job description

This is an exciting opportunity to join the SKA organisation, a newly incorporated Not-for-Profit company which is coordinating global research and design activities to build the world’s largest radio telescpope. The SKA Organisation has annual income of around £5m and will employ approximately 30 staff by the end of 2012.

The SKA Organisation is currently based in the Alan Turing Building, The University of Manchester, but is expected to move to a purpose-built building at Jodrell Bank Observatory in September 2012.

Role

Reporting to the Head of Administration and working closely with the Senior Management team, you will provide finance administration support to the operational activities of the SKA Organisation. You will develop and implement good practice finance policy, practice and procedures.

We are looking for an experienced finance professional, with a track record of finance administration, using a computerised accounting system such as Sage, in a small-medium size organisation. You will be educated to degree level in business, management or finance, or hold a relevant professional qualification.

You will also have:

  • Experience developing and implementing finance policies and procedures.
  • Clear and accurate written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of the UK’s tax and VAT legislation.
  • Computer literate, with a demonstrated proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office and financial software packages.
  • Exceptional numeracy skills.
  • Effective time management skills to ensure tight deadlines are met.
  • Ability to exercise discretion and preserve confidentiality.
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to keep accurate records.
