Financial Controller
Salary: £36,000 - £42,000
Major Duties:
Major control duties include preparation of monthly and annual management accounts, operating reviews, risk management, investment appraisal, cash flow management, budget preparation and control and supervision and development of the Finance team.
Specific Responsibilities
Include, but are not limited to:
- Preparing, to tight deadlines, accurate, timely and reliable monthly management accounts including income & expenditure (profit & loss), balance sheet and cash flow statements along with explanation of variances to budget/forecast and KPIs ensuring that they are user-friendly and support operational decision-making.
- Preparing P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow forecasts for the rest of the year in consultation with Programme Managers, heads of department and other operating budget holders to accompany the management accounts each month.
- Coordinating and preparing the annual operating and capital budget as well as the three-year business plans.
- Preparation of year end accounts and liaison with External Auditors to complete the audit.
- Monitoring cash disbursements, receipts and balances on a daily basis and maintaining a current cash flow forecast through to the end of the year; this includes monitoring returns on cash investments and mitigating exposure from interest rates and foreign exchange movements.
- Oversee monthly payroll run.
- Lead and/or support new systems implementation and its interface with accounts.
- Lead operating reviews with Programme and Business Stream Managers to monitor and improve performance as well as support decision-making.
- Deputise for the International CFO when necessary and undertake ad hoc projects as required.
- Manage cash and operating reviews in a manner that ensures financial liquidity and viability of the business.
- Play an active role in Supporting Development and Programme Managers in pursuing new business by way of providing advice/support on costing/pricing models and commercial considerations.
- Pursue avenues of cost management and reduction throughout the company.
- Support Operational Managers in the development of business or investment proposals with advice/help in financial modelling and commercial analysis.
- Build strong relationships with internal and external partners including the international executive team, treasurer, advisors and overseas offices.
- Be uncompromising in implementing financial and budgetary control as well as in risk management.
- Supervising the Finance team.
- Liaising with the overseas offices to ensure that all financial information and returns are received and verified in a timely and accurate manner.
Requirements:

Education:
- Technically strong – ACCA, CIMA, ACA qualified or equivalent.
Experience:
- Extensive experience as a Financial Controller, head of finance or Finance Manager with experience of working with Operational Managers and of preparing monthly management and annual management accounts on integrated financial accounting systems, financial modelling, budgeting, cash and risk management.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Preferably (not essential) familiar with Access accounts but essential knowledge of computerised integrated financial accounting systems with some evidence of implementing or supporting the implementation of new systems or improving existing systems and high level of MS Excel capability.
- Able to communicate freely –written and verbal.
- Organised and able to act decisively to resolve problems.
- Able to work with colleagues/partners internationally dealing with differing levels of expertise, language and response rates.
