Group Financial Controller

A leading organisation has an opportunity for a high calibre Group Financial Controller, to provide interim cover during maternity leave. There is a potential opportunity to remain within the group in a different role after the interim contract is completed.

The key aspects of the role will involve all corporate accounting for a multimillion-pound turnover business; supporting acquisitions for the group and division, as well as tax, VAT and treasury. There will also be operational involvement in all divisions, together with projects.

We are based in Wilmslow and London, with activities in the UK, Eire and fledgling activities in Netherlands, Germany and Australia.

Managing a team of ten across two locations based in Wilmslow, Cheshire and London, you will be accountable for the production of all financial and management accounts, regulatory and statutory reports, daily and weekly sales reports, the annual budget and quarterly reforecast for the group businesses. You will manage the external audit process as well as internal cost reviews and work closely with the Profit and Cost Centre Managers across the business.

• Ensure the production of timely and accurate consolidated management accounts for the group.
• Managing cash flow of the group including foreign exchange treasury.
• Coordination of regular budgets and forecasts with commentary and financial analysis.
• Responsibility for integrating financial systems and processes of new subsidiaries.
• Development and improvement of finance software systems.
• Supporting the Group FD with statutory reporting and business improvement projects.

• Ensure management accounts are produced on a monthly basis, including P&L statement for all profit and cost centres, balance sheet and cash flow to the set timetable.
• Review accounts with appropriate Managers and Controllers ensuring they fully understand their accounts.
• Write a Board commentary.
• Review balance sheet reconciliations for all balance sheet account codes.

• Ensure that daily and weekly sales are reported to the business accurately and to set timetable.

• Work with the GFD and Local Controllers to produce monthly forecasts for the business.
• Work with the GFD and Local Controllers to produce the UK budget and quarterly reforecast.
• Produce the year end audit file and take the lead on the Group audit.
• Provide all necessary information for statutory reporting, tax returns and ad hoc queries regarding the business.

• Develop a good understanding of the business to be able to assist in commercial decision-making.
• Develop the financial skills of the Financial Controllers and Managers.
• Review costs and highlight areas for costs savings.

The Person

Applicants will preferably be ACA Big 4 trained and must have an excellent academic background, with a progressive career history. Personal qualities will include a strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills and the ability to work in a flexible work environment with a hands-on attitude where influencing skills are essential.

You will have a strong track record of bringing together multiple businesses and be used to an autonomous role.
