Job description

Greenpeace was founded by a small group of activists in 1971. Today, they have a presence in more than 40 countries. While the size of the organisation may have changed, their commitment to defending the planet and promoting peace, to achieving positive change through action, and to realising a vision of a green and peaceful world is as strong as ever. Greenpeace UK is a strong and influential part of this worldwide mission and has a turnover of £12m. It is headquartered in Islington, London.

Reporting to the Organisational Director (who is in charge of Finance, HR, IT, legal and overall organisational effectiveness), the Head of Finance will manage a small team of three and be responsible for:

  • Maintaining and continually improving the organisation’s financial infrastructure.
  • Supporting the determination of the financial strategy and its implementation.
  • Supporting decision-making through the provision of high-quality information and advice.
  • Providing financial accounting services, payroll, treasury and statutory accounting.
  • Designing and maintaining appropriate risk controls.
  • Developing the financial capabilities of non-finance staff.
  • Overseeing systems for managing Greenpeace’s CO2 emissions.
  • Supporting the Greenpeace Environmental Trust in its grant-making role.

The successful candidate will be a fully qualified Accountant who has gained the requisite experience in their career so far to enable them to deliver an exemplary service to both internal and external stakeholders. This may have been gained within either the INGO/Not for Profit or commercial sectors. Those who have reached Manager or above within a practice environment may also be considered. It is also important that you identify strongly with the work of Greenpeace and have strong oral and written communication skills combined with the ability to think laterally and work independently across a range of finance and non-finance issues.

Your CV will be forwarded to search agents Robertson Bell for consideration.
