What is the purpose of the role?
You will support the Finance and Project Systems team in managing the information systems owned by finance. You will be responsible for identifying how processes are completed in SAP and ensuring that financial transactions of the company are appropriately controlled within the governance framework.
All individuals in the team are responsible for promoting business wide best practice and continuous improvement within the information systems owned by finance. You will be required to build strong networks in the business and be able to use your influence to drive change throughout the wider business.

Following an internal promotion this is an exciting opportunity to join a small, but developing team within the Finance function in Reading. You will be supporting the team of three to ensure they are able to facility the systems owned by finance are being utilised to their full potential.
Working across of number of disciplines in our organisation you will be exposed to a number of different aspects of SAP. This is a highly task orientated position which will allow you to see positive results from your work. As there is substantial liaison with the business your capabilities will be recognised and support career development.
What will this role involve?
- Responsibility for ensuring that SAP control accounts are accurately reported. This is essential for the reporting of management and statutory accounts.
- Responsibility for ensuring that journal and balance sheet reconciliation compliance requirements are met on behalf of the CFO.
- Driving the relationship between finance and the wider business to support the achievement of business objectives and the adherence to agreed process and procedure, including managing the introduction of changes to SAP processes with the impacted Managers across the business.
- Representing the views of finance and influencing the outcome of IS initiatives.
- Management of GRIR control account.
- Reconciling control accounts in SAP.
- Maintaining and managing SAP sign off powers hierarchies.
- Attend steering groups to ensure that finance's concerns and requirements are addressed.
- Checking that batch runs and transactions have happened correctly, resolution errors early identification of errors and reporting on timesheet compliance.
What are we looking for?
To be successful with your application you will need to be able to demonstrate that you are highly analytical with advanced knowledge of spreadsheets and SAP or a similar system. As the expert for finance and being the technical specialist we are seeking a qualified Accountant that is credible with senior internal stakeholders and be able to influence others to drive change.
As the role requires detailed knowledge of the accounting transactions of how all parts of the business interact (including supply chain, management accounting, capital reporting and OFWAT regulatory reporting), strong double entry skills are a prerequisite, as is the ability to trace complex transactions through the SAP estate and understand how SAP work flows interact. It is also essential that the successful individual can interact with our IS partner Wipro from both an accounting and technical viewpoint to ensure that improvements to the system are delivered and governance processes are maintained.
Thames Water information and salary details:
- Grade L6/Salary £35,000 to £40,000 per annum, depending on experience.
- This role is based Clearwater Court, Reading.
