Microsoft has announced the creation of an internet community site for finance professionals.
The service, informally referred to as 'MySpace for financial pros', was launched by the software giant at its Convergence conference in San Diego this week.
As yet the site has no official name, but it is also known as the 'Dynamic Live Beta Community' and is aimed at finance managers, financial controllers, accountants and other finance staff.
It will provide blogs, forums, tagging, RSS syndication and other community features, which will hopefully encourage financial professionals to interact more with each other.
The website itself invites users to "learn from and collaborate with individuals who work in the same way you do … You'll find tools and resources to help foster community collaboration with other finance professionals".
Current blogs include one entitled "Translation", which looks at topics that arise when people working in finance work with people in marketing.
It is also asking users to help choose a name for the community by voting, with 'Capital Chat', 'Finance Forum' and 'Net Knowledge' all possible candidates.
Separately, a recent study from consultant firms Muzeview and Hinze Communications found that many accountancy practices are failing to fulfil their online potential.
