Accountancy firm Baker Tilly is consolidating its presence in Scotland by merging with Edinburgh-based Scott and Paterson.
The new firm will have a combined turnover of £12 million, making it the fifth largest company in Scotland's central belt, as well as the largest accountancy practice in Edinburgh outside the Big 4.
"This gives us critical mass in Edinburgh and brings tremendous opportunities, given Edinburgh is a key financial services market," said regional managing partner David Gwilliam.
"One significant feature of the deal is that, within the Edinburgh context, Scott and Paterson is the larger firm."
Baker Tilly was 'best fit'
Senior partner Douglas Paterson said that the accountancy firm had been approached by a number of practices but that Baker Tilly proved to be the best fit.
He said that many clients will notice no differences except the name change, but that others would be able to take advantage of an increased number of specialisms.
"The ability to provide a full range of services will allow us to support our clients in all aspects of their business as well as actively pursuing the expansion of the combined Edinburgh practice."
The Scottish job market is currently good for accountants, according to a recent Bank of Scotland report.
Temporary accounting and financial staff are in more demand than workers in any other sector, it found.
