£156,000 a bottle champagne 'straight off the seabed' An exclusive hotel in Russia is selling bottles of champagne that have sat on a seabed for over 80 years.

Over two hundred bottles of 1907 vintage champagne are on sale at the Carlton Ritz in Moscow for £156,000 a bottle.

According to Russian newspaper Komersant, the bubbly had initially been sent to the Russian Royal family in 1916 by the Heidsieck vineyard.

However the ship carrying them sank just off the coast of Finland and the bottles were only discovered by divers investigating the wreckage in 1997.

The Carlton Ritz Hotle, which charges over £10,000 per night for a room, bought all the bottles and they are now seen as the "ultimate show-off" drink for millionaire businessmen.

It was recently reported by the Mirror that a champagne which retails in supermarket Waitrose won the over £10 category of the champagne vintage Decanter World Wine Awards 2008.

The £24.99 a bottle beverage beat competitors which cost almost 30 times more.
