There still remain a number of jobs in the
finance sector, despite the current economic uncertainty, according to an industry expert.
Global recruitment specialists Hays found that opportunities for
finance professionals still exist across the public services.
It added that
accountants are particularly in demand in the local government and education sectors, with the NHS also providing "plenty of career opportunities to consider".
Jan McQuaker, regional director at Hays Public Services, said: "Despite the downturn in the private-sector housing market, the social housing sector will remain steady.
"Social housing offers excellent career opportunities for a wide range of
finance people, including
financial planning and analysis specialists, treasury managers, project accountants, as well as more traditional roles."
Figures released recently from the Office for National Statistics showed that 138,000 people were made redundant in the three months up to July 2008, compared to 28,000 in the three months to April 2008.
