Ernst & Young helps female accountants with work wear dilemmas More than 400 female employees at Big 4 firm Ernst & Young chose to attend courses to get advice on how to dress appropriately in the workplace.

The 'dress for success' workshops handed out advice such as "do not bring an evening bag to a daytime meeting" and "don't expose your midriff".

Fleur Bothwick, head of diversity at the firm, said that while work wear options for men were relatively simple, women did not always know what to wear.

She told Personnel Today: "The whole point of our gender strategy is to attract and help people achieve full potential.

"You don't want to be remembered as the woman with red lips, or leave people wondering 'how does she walk on those heels?'."

The voluntary sessions, held at locations around the country last month, featured image consultancy House of Colour which advises women to think about their colour palettes.

Meanwhile, a recent study said that accountants do not deserve their reputation of being boring.

The study by tax and accountancy services provider CCH found that 74 per cent of accountants like using iPods and 58 per cent have an account on a social networking site such as Facebook.
