Social networking presents a range of new pitfalls for unwary employees, according to one expert.
Writing for the Guardian, Mercedes Bunz, explained that sites like Twitter can often allow bosses an insight into their workers' private lives, and the outcome is not always good.
So what should people who find themselves being followed by their boss - in a virtual sense - do to avoid upsetting them?
According to Ms Bunz, the answer is simple - avoid Tweeting anything that you would not say within earshot of them.
This includes avoiding comments about how you hate your job, but like the paycheck, she stated.
Ms Bunz said: "You might feel that you can talk behind someone's back to your friends and they will never find out - but it is becoming increasingly likely that they will."
People should ensure they will not come to regret anything they post on a social networking website, she added.
Those who fail to follow these rules could find the job they worked so hard to get disappears.
Earlier this year, Kimberley Swann was sacked after describing her job as dull on Facebook.
