The news that there has been a rise in the number of unemployed graduates may be tough for jobseekers to hear, but one expert has revealed that many firms are still taking on former students.
Liberal Democrats figures revealed earlier this week that the unemployment rate for 18 to 24-year-olds has increased by 5.8 per cent to 18 per cent.
The statistics also show that 20.3 per cent of graduates in this age category are out of work, but Graduate Recruitment Bureau co-founder Dan Hawes explained that many firms are still taking on such workers.
"In our experience we find that lots of employers are still looking for graduates but maybe not necessarily on a graduate scheme," he said.
Mr Hawes added that companies who cut back on graduate recruitment are missing out on new talent and are taking a "very short-sighted" view of their operations.
He noted that "there are still plenty of jobs out there", although graduates should expect to encounter tough competition.
