Graduates looking for their first full-time role may be interested to hear one expert's opinion that Brits now "almost need to know another language".
According to The Language Show event manager Shirry Liram, it is almost essential for UK citizens to learn the native tongue of another country as the world is becoming smaller.
She said that many people now have friends or partners from other nations and often choose to live or work abroad, highlighting the need to learn a second language.
"Plus languages are now compulsory in primary schools so teachers in primary schools need to educate themselves about teaching languages in the UK," Ms Liram added.
The expert suggested that knowing a second language could be a useful skill and can also help make a CV "stand out from the crowd".
Her comments follow research from travelsupermarket.com which shows that more than half of Brits do not try to learn the local language while on holiday, while 62 per cent feel embarrassed about their lack of linguistic ability.
