A pair of high-flying student accountants have been awarded bursaries for their achievements, it has been reported.
After becoming the highest scoring students on the University of Huddersfield's BA (Hons) Accountancy and Finance degree course, Melissa Houghton and Ben Thompson were given cash prizes by the West Yorkshire Society of Chartered Accountants, according to the Huddersfield Examiner.
Ms Houghton, who recorded a first-year pass mark of 81 per cent, and Mr Thompson, who was a close behind with mark of 80 per cent, received £300 and £200 respectively, the paper states.
They received their prizes at a special awards ceremony presented by former president of the WYSCA Angela Riley, who is also the regional executive of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.
Huddersfield University's bursary scheme is part of the institution's Partners in Accountancy initiative.
Recently, a number of professionals working in the financial services sector were awarded honours by the Queen, including former chief executive of the Financial Reporting Council Paul Boyle.
