Graduates struggling to take their first major step on the career ladder could benefit from assistance from their local council, it has been suggested.
According to a recent Ofsted report on the high number of young people not in education, employment or training (NEET), government authorities have a big part to play in helping potential workers find jobs.
The study of 12 local councils found to be successful in reducing NEET numbers showed that interview and CV workshops and other initiatives can be effective in helping young people.
"The recession has hit young people hardest, with one in five now facing the downward spiral of unemployment," explained Princes Trust director of policy and development Ginny Lunn.
She added that such people can be helped to find work with the proper support, which would have wider benefits for the nation.
Meanwhile, the Prince's Trust found earlier this year that unemployment drives one in ten young people to drink or narcotics.
