Recommendations from The Low Pay Commission have resulted in the government changing the law surrounding the national minimum wage, which is set to increase by 15p an hour from £5.93 to £6.08.

Additionally, the minimum wage for 18 to 20 year olds will increase by 6p to £4.98 an hour, while 16 to 17 year olds will receive an extra 4p at £3.68 an hour. Apprentices will profit from a 10p increase to £2.60 an hour. The changes will be implemented in October 2011.

This move will benefit nearly one million employees and is positive news for Britain’s workforce in a time of protracted uncertainty.

And with the accountancy sector performing strongly according to the latest Report on Jobs from the REC and KPMG, salary demands will continue to rise.
