Over half of accounting and finance professionals take their smartphones on holiday, while over two thirds will answer a work-related call when on holiday, according to new research.

The industry survey, which spoke to 500 accounting and finance professionals, revealed that 56% of accountants admitted to taking their smartphone on holiday with them so they could check their emails and call the office at least once a week.

Meanwhile, 31% said that they actively take their work away with them in order to complete projects and stay on top of their workload.

Reasons given by the survey’s respondents for taking work with them included cutting down their backlog of work, getting peace of mind and escaping from their family.

With mobile, tablet and cloud technology giving accountants the option of taking their work away with them, it seems that work-life balance might be further away than hoped.
