Drivers face bank holiday price increases For anyone looking to take a drive this weekend, it will become apparent that the cost of filling up has increased compared with the same point during the previous year, it has been claimed.

How much have prices increased?

According to the motoring group the AA, in contrast with the same point in 2007, petrol prices have increased by 17 per cent, which may affect final year students or graduates looking to take a holiday break on a budget, reports the BBC.

"It will strike a lot of people driving this weekend just how different things are," said Andrew Howard, a representative from the AA.

The organisation also noted that diesel costs have increased by 29 per cent over the same period.

By how much will the increase hit pockets?

With the cost of fuel costing, on average, less than £1 per litre at this time last year, it has been estimated that a full tank of fuel is now £14 more expensive, the motoring organisation has claimed.

In related news, the AA is also calling for a cut in the rate of fuel tax, according to a report by the Times.
