Hi
So what are you doing Monday evening?
Whatever you thought you were doing, it’s time to cancel your plans and meet up with GAAPweb! That’s right, on Monday 14th of July GAAPweb is hosting an exciting ‘Speed Networking’ evening in London.
The 'Speed Networking' event consists of a panel of experts, specially chosen by GAAPweb and all ready to answer any questions you throw at them! You will have approximately 10 minutes with your chosen expert to discuss any burning issues you may have.
The panel will be split into different zones:
Accounting Zone:
This panel will be hosted by qualified and experienced Finance professionals from within Trinity Mirror. They will be answering any questions on working in finance and accountancy, qualifications, career moves, sectors etc.
Recruitment Zone:
This panel will be hosted by recruitment consultants from Robert Half and Martin Ward Anderson. These guys will be offering advice on job hunting, career changes, interview tips and how to get that next dream job.
Web Zone:
This panel will be hosted by GAAPweb's Website Manager and Online Content Editor. Here’s where you go for any advice on online search methods, how GAAPweb works and what you can do to ensure your CV is viewed by as many recruiters as possible.
To make sure you’ve got enough energy for all this networking, GAAPweb and its panel will be providing food – so no excuses for not coming!
Make sure you don’t miss out! Visit our Meetup page right now to register for the event. We look forward to seeing you on Monday!
The importance of being green...
Thanks to everyone who took our June Survey – you’ve given us some really great feedback!
This month we wanted to find out what it is that attracts you to a certain employer. Are you looking for a specific brand? Is work/life balance more important than salary? And will a company’s ethical and environmental policies affect your decision to work for them? The results are in – and here’s what you told us:
-
64% of you said a company’s brand is important to you when you job hunt. That said, just 5% told us they would only consider working for the Big 4.
-
95% of you would consider working for a lesser known brand if you were offered the right salary and benefits.
-
45% would even consider working for an unknown brand at a reduced salary if it meant a good work/life balance.
-
And we’re very proud of the 72% of you who told us that a company’s policies on ethical and green issues would affect their decision to take a role with them!
We were also really impressed by how many of you have been working to make your work places more environmentally friendly! Here’s how you’ve been making your offices greener:
-
Recycling – cans, paper, cartridges and electrical equipment.
-
Using low energy bulbs.
-
Calculating company’s carbon emissions and working out where reductions can be made.
-
Fundraising for environmental projects.
-
Introducing company supported bike hire schemes to encourage cycling to work.
Well done to all of you who’ve been busy implementing these ideas – you’ve all inspired everyone in the GAAPweb office to make an extra effort to do our bit!
