Audit Manager
London, Newcastle or Manchester
£54,461 to £59,907 (London) - £48,389 to £53,228 (National)
The UK’s tax authority, HM Revenue & Customs is responsible for making sure that the money is available to fund the UK’s public services, as well as helping families and individuals with targeted financial support. In this key role, heading up a dedicated team of qualified and trainee auditors, you’ll manage the delivery of a designated portfolio of audits spanning the Valuations Office Agency and Serious Fraud Office, as well as the HMRC itself.
This will involve working closely, in an account management capacity, with internal customers up to Director level. Developing a deep understanding of their business environments and the risks they face, you’ll draw on the insights you gain to deliver the most effective audit service possible. To a large extent, your success will hinge on the relationships you develop with those customers. But also important will be the way you lead and inspire your team. Together, you’ll tackle work that is interesting and probably the most varied in government. And gain a breadth of experience that could set you up for even bigger challenges ahead.
To rise to the challenge, you’ll need to be a qualified accountant or internal audit professional with proven experience in a similarly large and complex audit environment. More specifically, we’ll be looking for experience of people development and talent management. Every bit as important as your practical experience will be the personal qualities you bring to the role. A confident communicator, highly organised and collaborative in your approach, you’ll need the personal credibility and natural leadership skills to bring out the best in everyone around you.
