Sir Michael Dixon has worked at the Natural History Museum (NHM) for 11 years and has seen visitor numbers increase from 3m to almost 5.5m visitors a year.

He speaks to London School of Business and Finance (LSBF) about the key challenges facing cultural organisations such as the NHM. One of the key challenges he highlights is the future of Government funding. Over the last 5 years the NHM has experienced a 25% shortfall in Government funding. Sir Dixon describes cultural organisations in the UK as resilient and talks about how the NHM has increased its own entrepreneurial ability to generate its own income.

Sir Dixon also talks about what makes a good leader and says the most important factor is developing a level of self awareness, knowing your own strengths and weaknesses. It's also important to be a good communicator and have good delegating skills.
