Introduction

Target salary: £65,150 (range of £52,120 - £78,180) + car allowance + benefits and bonus
Swindon Head Office

With assets of around £190 billion and around 15 million members, we’re the UK’s largest mutual building society.

We are different, we are a growing business based in our Swindon Head Office and because of this our auditors don’t live out of a suitcase. They have the chance to develop strong meaningful relationships with the areas they audit.

Being a catalyst for change and improvement, audit at Nationwide is not a tick box exercise. It's much bigger than that. It's about reviewing the adequacy and effectiveness of the controls in place to mitigate key business risks.

That’s why we need highly skilled, technically able, people who can understand and challenge relevant areas of the business.

This is a new role, setting up and leading an internal Quality Assurance team Quality Assurance for us is about improving the quality, consistency and reliability of our audits. It’s also about thinking bigger and looking at the practical long term strategies to push our audit department forwards. In the future there will be an opportunity to move into the wider team completing audits of the Nationwide business.

Who we're looking for

Are you an auditor who constantly strives for better and wants to take their career in a new direction? If so this role could be the perfect role for you.

We need excellent communicators who can talk to colleagues at a variety of levels of seniority. You’ll also have the interpersonal skills and gravitas to coach, influence and challenge individuals on their current processes, procedures and practices.

You’ll need to:

• Be an audit specialist from the financial services sector and must have previous experience of working at a senior level within an audit function, with experience of planning, delivering and reporting audit work.
• Have experience of auditing in a range of business areas and be able to apply your knowledge and analytical skills to the whole range of business activities, from product design to distribution channels, operations or finance.
• Be conscientious and have an eye for detail but have the ability to consider the bigger picture.
• Have personal resilience but equally be empathic when required.
• Have strong communication skills, be able to influence senior managers and build effective working relationships, sometimes in personally challenging environments.
• Be able to produce clear and concise reporting of results and an ability to see beyond the detail and draw out the most significant conclusions.
• Be organised, able to plan and meet deadlines.
• Be able to engage confidently with 3rd parties (such as the big 4), managing co-sourcing contracts and budgets.
• Have, or be on your way to completing an ACA, ACCA, IIA or CISA qualification.

What you'll be doing

As the Audit Senior Manager – Quality Assurance (QA) you’ll be responsible for a new team which provides assurance over the effective deployment of Group Internal Audit’s methodologies. You will initially devise and then implement a new operating model for quality assurance, ensuring that best practice is followed. This is not just about checking that the methodology has been followed. Your work will confirm the right audit outcomes have been achieved; you will challenge the management team on the risks identified, the approaches taken and confirm the right messages are reported to management. You will oversee the ongoing operation of quality assurance activity once implemented, supported by a dedicated Audit Assistant Manager, as it embeds into the operating model of the Division. This will include reporting of results, liaising with co-source providers who will provide technical support where required and developing action plans to improve performance.

Reporting to the Head of Audit (Operations and Development) you will also become a member of our Divisional Operational Management Team, using your knowledge and expertise to contribute to strategic objectives and managing the implementation of strategies into the wider Division.

In due course you’ll have an opportunity to move into the main audit function, managing delivery of audits for parts of Nationwide’s business.

The extras you’ll get

If you put a lot in, it’s only fair you should get a lot out. So if you help us do the right thing for our customers, we’ll help further your career at Nationwide. As well as your salary, there’s life assurance, a pension and a recognition and rewards scheme. We think it’s a great place to work, and we’re not afraid of giving you praise when you’ve done well

Why work for us

At Nationwide we’re here for our members and we put their needs first in everything we do. And now, more than ever, two things are helping us go from strength to strength: we put our customers first, and we’re known for being open, honest and trustworthy.

We’re also the world’s largest building society, with communities at the heart of everything we do. We aim to do the right thing for our members which helps set us apart from our competitors. But we need good people to help us do it. People who understand what we believe in, and have the talent and drive to keep us successful.
