Job Description

Due to continued growth we seek a highly motivated part qualified or fully qualified accountant to join our team in Chester as Finance Analyst. If you’re interested in growing your career within investment banking and looking for a chance to develop, this could be an excellent opportunity for you.

You will gain valuable exposure to P&L reporting and interact with a range of business partners across the bank. For top performers as part of your long term professional development there may be opportunities for supported study in ACCA or CIMA. 

Responsibilities

As Finance Analyst your main responsibilities will involve:

  • Completing core daily tasks including explaining daily P&L movements and reconciliations
  • Being a direct point of contact for the trading desks (Credit, Equities, Commodities)
  • Completing month end P&L and balance sheet close – preparing and reviewing of reconciliations, investigating differences and posting of accounting journal entries
  • Contributing to additional ad hoc projects and queries as they arise
  • Dealing with the reporting cycle of cash and derivative products 
  • Communicating with the trading desk and many other groups within the bank

Requirements

As Finance Analyst your skills and qualifications will ideally include:

Essential:

  • Minimum Bachelors degree ideally in Mathematics/ Finance/ Physics/ Economics or similar numerical subject
  • Finalist or part qualified accountant
  • Good knowledge of key accounting principles
  • Excellent organisational skills are required with the ability to prioritise daily workload whilst working accurately under pressure
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build relationships across all levels of seniority
  • Logical approach to problem solving taking ownership and offering practical solutions
  • Analytical skills including data reconciliation and interpretation
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to identify and deliver process improvements
  • Competence in MS Excel, Access (macros, formulas) and outlook  
  • Proven interest in investment banking area
  • Ability to learn and understand multiple areas of the business

Desirable:

  • Full or part qualified accountant; ACCA/ CIMA / ACA or equivalent
  • Experience in financial services or knowledge of investment banking products from a Middle Office or Back Office
