DIRECTOR OF FINANCE & OPERATIONS (DFO)

c.£60,000

St George’s Hospital Charity has a mission to raise and use charitable funds to benefit patients, support staff and improve facilities within St George’s Healthcare NHS Trust.

With an investment portfolio of £14 million and an annual income of around £2 million our aim is to maximise the amount of money available to the Trust, ensuring that this is used effectively to benefit patients while not substituting for NHS funding.  The charity also owns and is responsible for the hospital’s art collection, valued at about £1 million. We are currently embarking on a major Capital Fundraising campaign for which we have recruited a dedicated team committed to raising £10 million.

We also have a small Community Fundraising department and a Special Purpose Funds team looking after some 250 funds. In addition there is a small Finance and Administration team.

Due to the expanding nature of the charity some restructuring is taking place, which leads us to require a Director of Finance & Operations (DFO).

Reporting to the Chief Executive and working closely with the Director of Fundraising (DFun) the DFO will be part of the Senior Executive team of the charity, and will manage the Finance and Admin Team.

To be considered for this challenging and rewarding position candidates will need to have:

  • experience working at a senior finance/operations management level
  • experience of charity finance, including systems design and documentation
  • experience of managing, motivating and developing staff
  • extensive knowledge of the charities SORP
  • experience of accounting for restricted and designated funds
  • management accounting experience including budgeting, cash flow forecasting and variance analysis
  • knowledge of relevant charity law, Charity Commission guidance and other regulatory requirements
  • experience of report writing for charity Trustees
  • knowledge of IT, finance software systems, databases,

Additional desirable qualities would include experience of: NHS charities, Trust law, data protection, risk management, health and safety and change management.
