Avon Rubber p.l.c. is a highly successful international business with a turnover of over £125 million. It is the global market leader for the design and engineering of innovative advanced respiratory protection systems for the military and first responder community and liners & tubing for the dairy industry. Over the past 5 years it has transformed itself and since 2009 has consistently posted impressive growth and profit results year on year. The group has a strong esprit de corps running throughout the company which places a strong emphasis on nurturing the talents and aspirations of its employees. Due to internal promotion and continued growth the group now seeks to appoint a capable Financial Controller to its £25 million subsidiary Avon Polymer Products Limited, which incorporates the UK operations of both the Protection and Dairy divisions.

This is an exciting, varied and interesting role with the opportunity to make a real difference. It is anticipated that the role will develop as the business grows. Working closely with the General Manager and supported by a small team you will be responsible for; providing robust management information and analysis to support commercial decision making, and maintaining sound financial controls.

Specific duties include coordinating strategic financial planning and modelling; helping achieve budgeted PBIT & Cash; managing the annual budget; providing variance analysis against budget; managing monthly forecasts for PBIT & Cash; year-end reporting; supervising and developing a willing team; maintaining the ERP system including accurate standard costing information for finished/semi-finished products; liaising with Product Manager/Product  Development/Planning/Buying. You will also assist with ad hoc projects as when they arise which may include capex projects, acquisitions and systems development.

You will be expected to add value by challenging business processes to improve profitability; improving working capital management, especially inventory; and improving profitability and visibility of Kaisan projects.

This role interacts across the group and with all business disciplines. Stakeholders include Main Board Directors through to divisional and local managers in addition to the usual external stakeholders including customers and suppliers.

Seeking to develop your career you will be a self-motivated, qualified accountant with a good sense of humour and excellent communication skills. You should be able to work as part of a close knit team and autonomously when required. To work successfully in a dynamic manufacturing environment you will need to be “people centred” and have high integrity together with flexibility in your approach to work, a robust personality and a “can do” mentality. Your CV should demonstrate a track record of achievements, commercial awareness, excellent management accounting and Excel skills, a familiarity with cost accounting and the ability to manage changing priorities while meeting tight deadlines.
