Assistant Accountant

Make-A-Wish® UK grants magical wishes to children and young people fighting life-threatening conditions. A wish gives a desperately ill child and their family time away from the daily struggles of living with a serious condition. We are recruiting for a part-time Assistant Accountant within the finance team working at our office in Camberley, Surrey.  The current team, which is made up of six staff, supports all other functions within the charity.  The role will primarily be responsible for posting and reconciling all income streams to the finance system(Microsoft GP) and working closely with our fundraising team.

Other areas of responsibility include preparing journals/accruals and the completion of various reconciliations, including bank and balance sheet accounts.

Basic Function:

To assist the Finance Manager in all aspects of finance and working as part of the charities Finance team providing support to all departments.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Monthly accounting  - process monthly journals for income, stock and accrued income
  • Reconcile income from GP finance system to donor database monthly and YTD
  • Complete monthly balance sheet reconciliations
  • Monthly and ad-hoc reporting
  • Ensure Gift Aid is accounted for and reported accurately
  • Provide essential cover of colleagues’ roles during holidays and periods of sickness
  • Support Make-A-Wish in its goals at all times

Knowledge and Experience

  • Experience in a medium sized organisation - a mix of both charity and commercial sectors preferable
  • Good IT skills, in particular Microsoft Excel to intermediate leveland experience of a variety of financial systems and reporting
  • Practical experience in coding and posting of financial transactions
  • Practical experience in reconciliations (bank, balance sheet, etc)
  • Practical experience and understanding of posting transactions to trial balance level
  • Experience and understanding of using databases
  • Ideally AAT qualified or equivalent by experience
