The business has a number of independent business units which each run with a full finance function.

Detailed Job Description

As a Financial Controller for one of the largest business units you will report to the Managing Director and functionally to the Senior Financial Controller of Business Operations, and you will be expected to play an active role in the running of the business. You will support the commercial and strategic activities of the business unit, as well as managing the finance function. You will be expected to provide strong leadership to the finance function and have the acumen and influencing skills to get involved with all areas of the business. Responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following:

• Working with other members of the senior management team to develop and implement business strategy
• Leading the development of financial strategies and being involved with the implementation
• Ensuring effective financial systems and controls are in place to enable timely reporting of the financial performance to Group deadlines
• Acting as a finance leader for the finance function, setting and demanding high standards of performance
• Continuously reviewing management information to proactively identify opportunities to improve performance
• Supporting the Managing Director and Senior Financial Controller with ad-hoc project work

Candidate's Profile

You will be a qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA) with a proven track record of driving growth and positive change. As a commercial finance professional, you will be comfortable getting involved in all areas of a business and be capable of generating ideas and challenging the status quo. You must be able to bring a thoroughness and robustness to management reporting. It is also essential that you have a strong track record in the manufacturing and engineering sector. You must be a strategic thinker with broad business understanding, and combined with operational financial management skills.

The Financial Controller position requires an individual who is bright, energetic, resilient and robust and will be committed to working with management to drive the business forward. Your ability to present information in a compelling way is also critical and you must share a passion for top quality analysis to enjoy the challenges of this role and be able to analyse, develop and recommend plans. Importantly you will possess strong influencing and leadership skills to work proactively with other disciplines, and have a desire to contribute to the future development of the business unit. You must also be capable of leading and developing the finance function.
