Director of Finance and Operations
London
Attractive salary
The Chartered Institute of Taxation (CIOT) and the Association of Taxation Technicians (ATT) form, between them, a worldwide tax family of over 30,000 tax students and professionals.
The CIOT and ATT are registered charities, with the primary purpose of promoting education in and the study of administration and practice of taxation. They operate on an apolitical basis designed to achieve, amongst other things, a better and more efficient tax system for all involved. This includes the public, tax payers, advisers and relevant statutory authorities. It is also internationally active, especially in Europe.
The Role
Following the retirement of the prior post-holder (who held the title Director of Member Services and Operations), this new role has been re-designated Director of Finance and Operations to reflect a desire to increase the focus on financial issues and financial controls in an organisation with a joint turnover approaching £10 million.
Reporting to the Chief Executive of the CIOT and working with the Executive Director of the ATT, the Director of Finance and Operations will lead the membership services, Finance, IT, Human Resources and Office Management teams and contribute to the work of the senior management team.
A shorthand description of the role would be Chief Operating Officer. However, the services provided to members of the ATT and the CIOT depend heavily on the IT infrastructure and related business processes so the post-holder will have oversight of the Member Services Team and its Head.
The Candidate
- The Director of Finance and Operations must be a fully qualified accountant with experience of producing statutory accounts and management accounts.
- The ideal candidate will have managed non-financial business processes and be familiar with managing IT infrastructure and curious about how it can contribute to the productivity of the organisation and the provision of services to members.
- Familiarity with the world of accounting and tax and the professional body or charity sectors are desirable.
- It is essential that the post holder has the ability to work with and through others cooperatively. The ATT and CIOT share most costs under the leadership of the Chief Executive of the CIOT and volunteers are involved in all areas of the business in both governance and production roles.
