Executive Director of Planning, Finance & Performance
Surrey
£80,000 per annum + car allowance

Samaritans is an internationally recognised charity and operates as a federation of 201 branches governed by a central Board of Trustees and is entirely volunteer-led.  The vision is that fewer people die by suicide and Samaritans provides confidential emotional support 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, by telephone, personal visit, e-mail, SMS and letter.

We are entering an exciting new era with a  great opportunity to drive forward and innovate in the way we deliver our service to callers through implementing our new Strategy for 2015-21, ‘Working Together to Reduce Suicide’.  Key to helping us achieve our goals will be to maximise and use our financial resources effectively in supporting and developing the service; to make sure we plan effectively across the whole federated organisation to make best use of our strengths and synergies; and to track how we are doing against our objectives so we continually assess our performance and make improvements for our callers.

We are looking for an exceptional individual to fill the Executive Director of Planning, Finance and Performance role, who is not only highly competent financially but who can also demonstrate a strong track record in developing planning and performance processes which have effectively monitored and reviewed progress against transformative strategic objectives.

This role will play a key part in delivering the new six year strategy and the ideal candidate will be a qualified accountant with significant demonstrable experience of driving change and improvement at a senior level in a commercial, public or voluntary organisation, including proven experience of managing substantial budgets and finances.

In addition to experience in the core areas of this role (which includes governance), the person will need to be results focused, a team player, a clear communicator, and have a motivational and facilitative leadership style.  The ideal candidate will also possess excellent influencing skills, strong emotional intelligence and be able to deliver to a high standard under pressure.

Please note the closing date for applications is 9am on Friday 16th October and that successful candidates would need to be available for first interviews on Thursday 22nd October (in Ewell) and second interviews on the Tuesday 3rd November (in London).
