Racing Post is a media company which focuses on horse racing, greyhounds, football and sports betting. The company publishes a daily national newspaper, runs multiple websites and mobile products including RACINGPOST.com. It also has an iPad newspaper app and a growing syndication B2B division. The business employs approximately 280 permanent staff and also hires freelancers and contractors.

The business has invested significantly in the development of digital/multimedia services for both existing and potential markets. Racing Post is a leading digital publisher with a number of world-class websites, spearheaded by RACINGPOST, which includes an online subscription service. Racing Post has developed a number of innovative mobile and tablet products that are crucial in extending the appeal of the brand to a new audience. In addition to racing-related products, the company is also expanding its digital product range into sports such as football.

Reports to:

Senior Management Accountant

Job purpose: To assist the Senior Management Accountant and the Finance team to provide accurate and timely management information and strong financial management. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the production of monthly management accounts.
  • Liaison with department heads to ensure accuracy of accruals/prepayments.
  • Provide variance analysis to aid full understanding of business issues.
  • Provide support to department heads in regard to understanding their cost areas.
  • Assist with budget and forecasts – analytical and modelling responsibilities.
  • Review of supplier invoices and communicating with suppliers regarding queries.
  • Any other duties as required.

Essential

  • Highly organised with a pro-active approach to work.
  • Excellent attention to detail with a high level of accuracy and efficiency.
  • Self starter, displaying initiative.
  • Excellent team working skills.
  • Must have excellent communication skills with both financial and non financial clients and employees.
  • Strong IT skills, with good operational knowledge of Microsoft packages, and intermediate to advanced level of Excel.

Desirable  

  • Previous experience of SUN accounts.
  • Experience of working in a publishing environment.
  • Professional accounting qualification.
