London, Nottingham or Newcastle

£58,935 to £67,662 - National | £64,964 to £71,581 - London

This is your opportunity to support HMRC’s drive to improve voluntary compliance and tackling avoidance – while making a positive difference to the nation’s finances. Joining HMRC as an accountant, you’ll play an active role in these high-profile issues. Ultimately, your work will touch the lives of everyone in the UK.

As an accountant, you’ll be advising Tax Specialists on all kinds of accountancy and auditing matters and the related areas of company law. On a case by case basis, you’ll be meeting customers and their advisors, assisting with risk assessment and acting as an expert witness in civil litigation. On top of all this, as our resident expert, you’ll develop and deliver accountancy coaching and training to our team. This will include formal training – through the HMRC Tax Academy – as well as informal sessions for teams and individuals.

To join us, you’ll need a strong track record as a business accountant. This could be in a relevant role at an accountancy firm, in industry or at HMRC, or another government department, as a Grade 6 or Grade 7 Compliance Accountant. You will also need a recognised accountancy qualification as well as continuing membership of a CCAB approved accountancy body – namely ICAEW, ICAS, ICAI or ACCA. Beyond your professional qualifications, it’s important that you have the ability and authority to converse with senior stakeholders, taxpayers, accountancy firms and court officials.

Besides the clear professional rewards, you can look forward to the advantages of Civil Service benefits including pension scheme and a good work/life balance.

Please note, we may create new roles in the near future. For this reason, we may place your application on a reserve list for consideration at a later date.

Closing date: 23rd May 2016.
