This Globally recognised NGO and International Development organisation based in Central London is looking for an Audit and Programme Accountant NGO. This role has a varied profile; implementation of audit systems, programme accountancy, mitigation of risk, and communication with all areas of the International Development organisation.

Description

Audit and Programme Accountant

 

  • Maintain a high standard in the financial planning and management of programmes and projects, including those financed with external institutional and government funds:


  •  

 

  • Provide short induction sessions for new staff in managing programme finances
  • Reviewing and advising on partner financial profiles
    • Support staff in developing accounting frameworks and ensure that budgets are properly reflected on the accounting system
    • Give advice and support to staff, both in London and internationally, in relation to financial management of programmes
    • When required assist in the setting up of field based financial systems and management reporting in the early stages of major humanitarian responses
    • Develop tools, build up understanding and provide ad hoc support in relation to accounting for programmes
    • Advising on opportunities for cost recovery during the budget setting phase2. Ensure that financial systems properly reflect programme funding:
    • Ensure that appropriate structures for programmes and institutional donor grants are set up in the accounting system and programme database
    • Make programme recharges, including indirect administration costs
    • Process grant approvals made from Special and General Funds
    • Make annual and end of programme reconciliations on Special Funds and put the necessary entries through the accounting system3. Mitigate the risks associated with institutional donor funding by helping maintain high standards of financial reporting:
    • Follow up overdue instalments from donors, outstanding pre-financing balances and overdrawn reserve accounts monthly
    • Report quarterly to the Finances Committee on institutional donor funding position
    • Assist external auditors with explanations of programme and contract finances
    • Check on the integrity of the institutional contract database and take necessary action
    • Help staff to set up the necessary systems to maintain the financial records of the programmes and to pull together data for institutional donor reports
    • Review reports to institutional donors to ensure that they are consistent with the financial position shown in the central accounting system4. Improve efficiency by providing managers with a clear picture of programme finances:
    • Provide staff with monthly programme financial reports from the central accounting system
    • Advise on financial reporting templates for partners
