Overview of Role

The Finance Manager is key in the delivery of complete, accurate and timely management accounting information to support monthly, quarterly and year-end reporting to the business and parent company.

The Finance Manager is responsible for the management and development of a team of five; covering management accounting, capital accounting and project analysis.

Key Accountabilities

Management Accounting

  • Manage the period end timetable, overseeing the management accounting, capital accounting, payroll accounting and intercompany processes, ensuring deadlines are met
  • Review journals produced by the team and challenge as appropriate
  • Partner the Commercial Finance team with their review of the period end results, assist in the investigation of queries, and manage the posting of final adjustments where required
  • Partner with the Senior Financial Accountant to ensure that all Group Reporting requirements are fulfilled accurately and to deadline
  • Ensure that balance sheet reconciliations are understood, completed and reviewed each period and that any queries are actioned on a monthly basis
  • Maintain a risk and opportunities log, and ensure that the Financial Controller is made aware of new risks/opportunities as they arise
  • Ensure that Sarbanes Oxley requirements are complied with and that all applicable internal processes and controls are followed and evidenced
  • Partner with finance colleagues and the wider business to drive the accuracy of the management accounts, ensuring that processes are followed correctly, providing input to the design and implementation of new systems and processes, and recommending and implementing improvements to processes and controls
  • Ensure all processes and procedures are updated, documented and centrally stored
  • Assist with the internal and external Sarbanes Oxley and Audit processes, ensuring deliverables are provided in a timely manner

Team Management

  • Oversee the development of three Management Accountants, the Capital Accountant, and the Project Analyst, ensuring appropriate processes are maintained to cover for roles when required and active succession planning is in place
  • Lead by example to develop a proactive and dynamic approach within the team, and promote the wider business values across the Finance department

Skills and Experience

  • ACA/ACCA/CIMA qualified.
  • At least 3 years PQE
  • Previous experience of managing and leading a team is essential. Including hiring, training, motivating and coaching to improve performance and results. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to communicate effectively and succinctly with people at all levels of the organisation
  • Have a control focused approach with the ability to understand business processes and identify improvements. Able to demonstrate the ability to work as part of a team, with ability to influence at all levels of an organisation both internally and externally
  • Be able to demonstrate initiative and be proactive in measures taken to achieve responsibilities
  • Demonstrated capability to redesign processes, often using technology
  • Strong technical ability with an appreciation of UK/US GAAP
  • Strong focus on internal controls and processes, and experience of Sarbanes Oxley
  • Good systems and ERP experience as well as excellent excel skills
  • Proven ability to work under pressure and to meet tight deadlines in a rapidly changing environment, whilst maintaining a high level of accuracy and focus.
