This is a high profile role and a very rare opportunity for an exceptional finance professional to work as Director of Finance at Twycross Zoo. You will act as an ambassador for the zoo when engaging with internal and external contacts.

Twycross Zoo 'the award winning major zoo was founded in 1963 and became a registered charity in 1972. Attracting 500,000 visitors each year, Twycross Zoo is at a very exciting stage of development with the first phase of a 20 year masterplan underway. The plan will see the zoo developing new habitats for a refreshed animal collection. Being the only zoo in the UK to house all four species of great ape, Twycross Zoo is at the forefront of conservation, education and research. It has a strong commitment to its award winning education programme which aims to increase the level of awareness, knowledge and understanding about the animals and their plight in the wild.

Detailed Job Description

The key remit of the role will be to lead the operational financial management of the zoo, compliance with the charity's statutory and regulatory financial requirements as well as line management of the Finance Team. This role forms part of the zoo's Executive Team, working with a team of Directors and Managers, to deliver the zoo's Masterplan.

Reporting to the Chief Executive your main responsibilities will be to:

  • Provide proactive financial leadership to all areas of the Zoo;
  • Direct the finance team (through a Financial Controller), ensuring effective processing and best use of systems;
  • Lead the preparation of management accounting reports and present them to CEO, Board of Trustees and Executive Team;
  • Manage all financial plans including cash flow and forecasting, ensuring that sufficient funding is in place at all times;
  • Financial management of capex projects;
  • Manage key relationships including liaising with the zoo's bank;
  • Develop, implement and oversee IT policies and infrastructure to support the zoo's long term objectives.

Candidate's Profile

You will be a qualified accountant, and have proven and demonstrable experience of finance, working within a senior team, leading teams and engaging with and influencing stakeholders at a board level.

The successful candidate will be CCAB qualified with a commercial mind-set, and will play a key role in implementing Twycross Zoo's strategic vision and in driving it forward. Rigorous but approachable, you will possess excellent communication skills and understand how to develop internal relationships to ensure finance truly partners across the whole organisation.
