Axon Moore is currently recruiting for a high-calibre Commercial Investment Analyst to make the next step in their career with a leading retail business based in Manchester. The Investment Analyst is a business critical role providing exposure to senior stakeholders from the start.


The opportunity

As part of a growing team based in central Manchester, the Commercial team is focussed on driving performance and across the wider business.

Having just gone through a sizeable shift, the business is now strategically placed to strengthen its position as UK market leader, whilst simultaneously looking to expand its presence globally.

Reporting directly into the Group Head of FP&A, this is a complex, hands on role, supporting the senior management of the Group and the key shareholders.

This key position within both the Group and the wider finance community combines a sound knowledge of accounting and finance matters with sound commercial acumen. The successful candidate will exert influence and support decision making through the analysis of complex commercial finance issues.

The role

Key roles and responsibilities for the FP&A Analyst include:
  • Evaluate the ongoing return on investment achieved on historic portfolio investments (relocations, refits, acquisitions)
  • Challenge the divisional portfolio teams in order to drive better behaviour. Demonstrate that we are making business improvements through the analysis and that we are challenging back to the business on performance and influencing future capital investment decisions
  • Prepare the analysis required for the regular portfolio review meeting
  • Take responsibility for monitoring of the underperforming branches within the estate and influence portfolio strategy accordingly
  • Independently review all submissions brought to the investment board, with critical appraisal of the assumptions underlying the proposed returns (also see point below)
  • Evaluate the portfolio team’s strategy for every store in the context of any branch changes brought about as a result of Project Gold or funding cuts. Present the findings to the CFO and direct reports

The person

This truly commercial role will suit an ambitious CIMA or ACA with demonstrable experience in similar industry roles and an aspiration to develop within a dynamic environment in addition to the following skills;

• Ability to communicate and work with wider business stakeholders

• Strong commercial outlook

• Able to maintain stable performance under pressure, deliver results

• Able to manage multiple tasks within a fast moving environment with the ability to manage expectations and hit deadlines

• Self-motivated, focuses on results and has a proven record of successful delivery of objectives

Candidates from a retail background will be highly desirable however all qualified FP&A Analysts will be considered.
