Senior Accountant – Financial Reporting (FINREP) – 18 month fixed term contract

We need

  • Target Salary: Senior Accountant £46,150 (range £41,535 - £55,380) + Bonus + Benefits on an  Fixed Term Contract
  • The role is based at our Head Office in Swindon, on the M4 corridor, with good road and rail links to Bristol and Reading.
  • We pride ourselves on being different and if you’re looking for growth and development Nationwide Building Society could be just the place for you.

The economic climate over the past several years has brought financial institutions into the global spotlight, resulting in high-profile accounting and regulatory changes.

This, combined with our continued investment and growth, has resulted in an opportunity for a Senior Accountant within our Financial Reporting team for an 18 month fixed term contract. This growing team currently comprises 20 people that are responsible for the delivery and development of financial reporting for a range of critical stakeholders, including the Bank of England, the Prudential Regulation Authority and the European Banking Authority, together with the production of the audited statutory results. In addition, the team supports wider corporate projects involving technical accounting matters and data governance.

We are looking for an adaptable and versatile individual who is looking for a challenging role where they can make a real impact.

Who we're looking for

This role will suit someone with strong problem solving and analytical skills with knowledge of accounting and financial reporting activities. You’ll be inquisitive and have an appetite to challenge and improve existing processes.

If you have a background of working in practice and are used to auditing a range of companies, examining financial reports and making recommendations, we want to hear from you. However, we equally value individuals with a large company background who have experience in producing and analysing financial reports.

As a minimum requirement you’ll:
•be qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA)
•have experience of Statutory reporting

It would also be nice if you also had:
•experience in financial services, however this is not a pre-requisite
•experience in regulatory financial reporting

If you’re interested in knowing what you may be doing in the role, read on.

What you'll be doing

This role sits within the team responsible for the production and enhancement of Nationwide’s FINREP regulatory reporting. FINREP is a relatively new suite of reporting developed to enhance regulatory understanding of the financial shape of critical financial institutions, and as a result has been the focus of significant investment by Nationwide. This is the chance to help refine our new regulatory reporting approach and technology, and play a key role in the ongoing delivery and improvement of FINREP.

Much more than a standard accountancy role, you’ll support the Finance Manager, take responsibility for developing understanding of reported information, to be able to drive quality assurance and improved control. What’s more, by identifying ways to develop and improve our processes, particularly through your understanding of our new FINREP environment, you’ll play a vital part in the ongoing financial success of the division and help Nationwide achieve its strategic goals.

The extras you'll get

If you put a lot in, it’s only fair you should get a lot out. So if you help us do the right thing for our customers, we’ll help further your career at Nationwide. As well as your salary, there’s life assurance, a pension and a recognition and rewards scheme. We think it’s a great place to work, and we’re not afraid of giving you praise when you’ve done well.
