Our client is the UK’s 6th largest building society with 53 branches and 18 agencies across Wales and the Borders. They are a mutual building society, founded in 1860. Being a mutual means that they are owned by and run for the benefit of the 500,000 Members – the savers and borrowers. Their key priority is to keep the Members’ money safe – and their consistently good financial performance reflects this.

A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced qualified accountant to join their Finance team to lead the Group’s implementation of IFRS9. This is a maternity cover role for a minimum of 12 months to complete implementation of IFRS9.

The role holder will work closely with the Group Credit Risk team to design and develop effective and compliant impairment models, and will take the lead in designing and implementing an efficient and robust operating model. The role holder will be the primary contact for the External Auditor in respect of IFRS9, ensuring that an appropriate assurance framework is agreed and delivered, and appropriately briefing Audit Committee on all material changes.

This role offers significant breadth beyond a core financial reporting role, including a leadership role in a major project change initiative, together with significant exposure to senior management, Audit Committee and the Board, and to key external stakeholders. The role will suit an applicant who is proactive, ambitious and keen to develop their skills and experience.

We’re looking for a qualified and technically strong accountant, with an ability to interpret technical information and who has extensive financial reporting experience in banking or financial services (gained in industry or practice). Also essential is a good understanding of IFRS 9 (direct experience not essential if similar relevant experience) and you will be a strong business partner. good at developing relationships and well organized to handle competing priorities. Excellent communication and influencing skills, with an ability to communicate complex ideas in a simple way is important as well as being a self-starter with strong drive and commitment and having sound judgment, decision making and problem solving abilities, often without full information or data

As well as a great working environment and plenty of opportunities for development and growth you can expect a generous package that includes pension, bonus and incentive schemes, free life assurance cover, critical insurance protection from day one and the option to buy extra holiday each year as well as the option to join the popular Sports and Social Club.

They welcome applications from suitably qualified people from all sections of the community and value the individual differences that people can bring to the Building Society.
