Primary purpose of the position:

The primary purpose of the position is to support the delivery of financial planning across the Group, including monthly forecasting, annual budgets and annual long-range planning exercises. In addition, there will be ad hoc FP&A analytical work to support decision-making. Key stakeholders are the CFO, Vice President of Treasury, Senior Finance Managers, and the Group Executive.

Given the high level of exposure to senior management, the candidate must be able to demonstrate they have the potential to represent Finance at the highest level using the required presence and communication skills.

Key responsibilities of the position:

Key responsibilities will be split into three areas:

Planning processes

  • Key member of the Group FP&A team to deliver the monthly and annual planning processes including the long range business plan and the budget
  • Ownership of the Group income statement, balance sheet, cash flow and net debt forecasts for inclusion in the monthly management results pack / for Executive reporting
  • Liaising with a variety of finance functions to obtain all the required inputs on a timely basis
  • Working closely with the Group Financial Reporting team and Finance Managers to review and validate the monthly forecast and variances to reported results
  • Provide challenge and assurance to the business units capex forecast submissions
  • Report on Group-wide forecast accuracy, identify areas of improvement, and implement improvements
  • Support the ongoing development of the planning system (Adaptive Insights) and planning processes toward best practice including migration from excel-based models and creation of robust planning assumptions

Group analysis and insight

  • Development of medium and long-term cash flow models for Treasury and other stakeholders. This includes forecasting both the 18-24 month horizon and over 10 years
  • Quantify the impact of different scenarios to support future transactions using insight from Group or business stakeholders
  • Quantify the impact of the key risks and opportunities facing the Group

Ad hoc activities

  • Support the production of the annual Group viability statement
  • Drive improvements working capital forecasting and understanding of actual results
  • Provide support to year-end audit issues and for ad hoc treasury requests
  • Maintaining ownership of the distributable reserves model to be updated biannually and as required by senior management
  • Developing new processes to support business decision making and finance function efficiency & effectiveness
  • Providing support for the roll out of any new financial systems, including design, testing, development of process documentation and training
  • Working with the Business Unit Finance Managers on ad hoc projects

Essential knowledge and skills:

The ideal candidate is likely to:

  • Be a newly qualified accountant with 1-2 years post qualification experience
  • Clear understanding of both accounting and commercial drivers underlying financial statements
  • Good communication skills to present findings clearly in written, PowerPoint, spreadsheet and verbal format to senior management and other stakeholders
  • Have a development mind-set - both for personal development and also continuous improvement of Finance function
  • Ability to obtain a clear understanding of issues from non-financial parties inside and outside the company
  • Able to work to high levels of accuracy with a passion for excellence for internal customers
  • Is self-motivated who takes ownership for delivery and is able to manage ambiguity
  • Strong Excel skills and experience of financial modelling

Desirable knowledge and skills:

  • Experience of business partnering / working in a business unit alongside commercial teams budgeting / forecasting
  • Experience of designing and implementing financial systems
  • Experience of using Adaptive Insights, SAP
