Co-op Food is changing. And it's changing fast. We're re-building our business to make it fit for the future, and the retail finance team has a big part to play in driving this transformation. They keep a close eye on what we're doing well, and spot opportunities to do things better, and by reporting on leakage, wastage, stock and margins they have a massive impact on the profitability of the business. Now we're looking for a talented Stock & Margin Accounting Manager to join us, and provide strong leadership and hands-on technical expertise to support the team through a period of change. If you can bring us great people skills combined with a passion for solving complex problems, we can offer you the chance to make a big impact in a business that puts people at the heart of its strategy.

As a Stock & Margin Accounting Manager at Co-op Food, you'll lead and motivate 2 of our retail finance teams supporting our Store and Depot network. We'll look to you to provide them with the support they need to deliver strong financial control, great results, and get really hands-on in making sure the insight they generate is accurate and valuable to your business customers.

What you'll do:

  • Lead, develop and motivate the Stock & Margin Accounting team
  • Lead the team in preparing accurate leakage/wastage & stock holding/stock-profit statements
  • Lead the team to deliver the gross margin accounting process for Food stores
  • Lead the team in managing the external store stock taking contract and associated processes
  • Lead the team in administering the duty management system and the duty drawback process
  • Manage ambiguity and support the team throughout a period of significant change
  • Investigate and address any anomalies/discrepancies in our complex data models

To be successful as our Stock & Margin Accounting Manager, you'll need to be a qualified accountant (ACCA/ACA/CIMA or equivalent) with a track record of taking a hands-on approach to solving complex technical problems. Needless to say, your leadership skills will have to be up to scratch, and some previous retail experience would be a big advantage (although that's not essential).

What you'll bring:

  • Qualified accountant status with tried and tested technical skills
  • Great people management skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire teams
  • Strong analytical skills, with a passion for solving complex problems
  • Credibility with senior colleagues, and the ability to influence people at all levels
  • The ability to quickly adapt and 'hit the ground' running in a changing environment

Why Co-op?

172 years ago a group of businessmen in Rochdale created an idea that changed the world. They believed that when people work together, they're stronger. And that principles are just as important as profits. They were pioneers. And they left us a legacy that's never been more important or relevant than it is today.

We want to change the world all over again. And we know that to achieve our goal, we need to recruit teams that reflect the communities we serve. We're committed to equal opportunities, and we're re-discovering the pioneering spirit on which our Co-op was built. If you believe in our purpose, and you're keen to help shape the future of our business, then join us. And make a real contribution to the revival of an iconic brand.
