A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an inspiring, creative and driven PR and Communications professional with strong knowledge of media relations, corporate communications and internal communications. My client, a fast growing, Central London based University, is looking for an individual to join their team as a Head of PR and Communications. Reporting into the Deputy Director of Marketing and Communications, this newly created role will be tasked with ensuring that the University maintains a highly visible and positive profile in the media and with all key external stakeholder groups and audiences. The successful candidate will have exceptional collaboration and relationship-building skills coupled with successful brand building experience.

  Key responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership and day-to-day management of staff for Press and Communications team, ensuring that University, its strengths and successes are widely known.
  • Manage an ongoing programme of media and reputation work.
  • Co-ordinate responses to media stories and requests for information developing University statements and managing sensitive and/or confidential issues affecting the University.
  • Develop an annual communications (internal and external), media / public relations, corporate events and alumni plan.
  • Undertake continuous internal and external environment scanning and stakeholder analysis, including identification of communication issues and opportunities.
  • Manage and develop the University’s reputation and corporate events function raising the profile of the University, our staff and students.
  • Support the Alumni Relations team in building and enhancing our Alumni network, ensuring high levels of engagement and maximising reputation benefit.
  • Support the internal communications team in enhancing our internal communications function, ensuring messaging is fully coordinated and that staff and students are engaged and inspired.
  • Operate as a key member of the Major Incident Communications Team supporting and advising on crisis communications as required.
  • Act as a spokesperson for the University when appropriate.
