My client is a Birmingham based registered charity with the objective to alleviate poverty through better credit solutions for lower income family households and to influence how we lend as a society to lower-income families.

They are now looking to appoint an FD to ensure successful delivery of Finance, HR, Project Assurance, Facilities, Procurement and Legal functions. Being a Member of the Board and reporting directly to the CEO, this position will play a pivotal role in ensuring the establishment and development phases of the Charity.
 
The post-holder will assume the following responsibilities in five key areas:

1. Finance

  • Financial management of annual budget growing from circa £3m - to circa £30m pa
  • Setting financial strategy in conjunction with the CEO, wider Executive Management team and Finance leadership team
  • Develop financial and tax strategies, manage credit risk and collection jointly with Risk and Compliance Manager, oversee the issuance of financial information in conjunction with the Finance and Collections Officer
  • Report financial results to the Board and Audit & Risk Committee

 2. HR

  • Oversee Human Resources policies and practices that support the goal to recruit, develop and retain a multidisciplinary world class team
  • Promote gender balance and diversity in their staffing

3. IT

  • Oversee the IT infrastructure strategy, in conjunction with the Project Manager, including maintaining and development of technical solutions and excellence of service to ensure appropriate and robust IT solutions

4. Procurement, Legal & regulatory

  • Set up and oversee the procurement and commercial arrangements with Funders and key stakeholders including retailer partners
  • Establish the best route to procurement, contracting and legal support  including the use of any available framework agreements or contracts which can be accessed
  • Lead and establish a policy and control mechanisms supporting project activities

5.   Project Assurance, KPIs and Reporting

  • Develop and lead on all monthly, quarterly and annual reporting requirements, including reporting to Innovate UK, the Board, Audit & Risk Committee and any other relevant stakeholders
  • Implement simple systems for KPI capture
  • Working closely with Lending Manager and Head of Risk and Compliance, develop and improve management reporting systems, KPIs, business drivers and commercial information

Candidate Profile

  • 10+ years' experience of working at a senior level within a similar position, ideally in a high growth, start-up, consultancy or project-led environment
  • Extensive experience working with Board level stakeholders
  • Extensive track record in the operational management of corporate services including Business Finance, Information Technology and Human Resources
  • Experience managing significant budgets within complex matrix environments, resulting in the development and implementation of diverse financial management strategies
  • Experience of fund and grant accounting, compliance and reporting, and of public sector accounting is a plus
  • HR experience and knowledge of relevant employment law is desirable
  • Experience of facilities and IT management is desirable
  • Ability to build, guide and motivate a team, and participate fully in the Management team.
