Financial Controller,
Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire

A truly unique opportunity to join DAI Group, a for-profit, US-based International Development Organisation. We are seeking a dynamic Financial Controller to lead their diverse and talented finance team based in Apsley, Hertfordshire. DAI's UK Office boasts spacious, bespoke offices just 30 minutes out of Euston, with excellent railway links.
DAI works with a wide range of clients, including national and local governments, bilateral and multilateral donors, private corporations, and philanthropies. The organisation is currently operating 100+ projects in 160 counties across the globe.
The key functions of the post are to ensure that a high level of financial control exists throughout DAI Europe; promote the finance department as a service provider within the business, ensuring a high level of service to Senior Management, Project Directors, Parent Company Stakeholders and external parties and to take responsibility for and lead the company's day to day financial accounting requirements.
Responsibilities include:
Manage the day to day financial accounting function, providing support, guidance and direction to the general ledger and project accounting staff;
Produce accurate and timely monthly consolidated management accounts and related financial reports, as well as supporting ad hoc reports as required in line with Group deadlines;
Manage the year-end audit process ensuring accounts are prepared and filed within Group deadlines;
Lead the process of year-end Tax pack preparation and Statutory accounts;
Lead the preparation of the company's annual business plan/budget and reforecasts;
Ensure monthly reconciliation of balance sheet accounts and project Gross Margins;
Ensure all HMRC filings are done in accordance with official timescale;
Ensure timely payment of associates, subcontractors & suppliers;
Prepare a complete annual audit file for presentation to the company's auditors;
Manage the credit control function;
Deputise for Financial Director in his absence;
Review & identify areas of improvement in financial processes, controls & reporting;
Be instrumental in supporting the Director of Finance in the upgrade of Oracle Financials and integration of subsidiary company into the system;
Qualifications and Skills required:
Essential:
A fully qualified accountant - ACA, ACCA, CIMA with experience as a Financial Controller in a Medium Sized Organisation;
A graduate, or candidate with equivalent experience, in a relevant discipline;
Strong Excel user;
Track record in managing a large team (10+) including Project Accountants / Experience in Project Accounting environment i.e: International Development, Engineering, Construction Utilities etc;
Experience of Change and Change Management i.e Acquisition, Restructuring, Systems Implementation;
Experience with Oracle Financials, preferably with implementation skills;
Good knowledge of UK GAAP, VAT and PAYE;
Good knowledge of Overseas Tax, FX and compliance;
Desirable:
Experience working with a US Parent Company / US Group exposure;
Experience working with International Branches in particular in Africa and Asia;
