The Credit Control team is part of the Company Accounts team, and is responsible for analysing debtor records to identify clients to contact and accurately liaising with clients about outstanding fees and payments. Credit Controllers work with other members of the Accounts Team to ensure the smooth running of their areas of responsibility, displaying strong communication skills, good attention to detail and excellent time management skills.

Credit Controllers are responsible for ensuring accurate records are maintained at all times; updating colleagues about payments received promptly; updating records of payments and when contact was made; sending out Customer Statements on a monthly basis (to customers and to those with overdue accounts); monitoring customer complaints and ensuring acknowledgment is sent immediately and a full response sent within one working day; send monthly reports to the management group listing company bad debts; send monthly debtor lists to the management group; monitor payment agreements with debtors and ensure terms of payment have been met; chasing debt by telephone and email and reducing debtor days; processing and generating reminder letters monthly; liaising with the technical staff to resolve outstanding queries on an ongoing basis; investigating and resolving queries relating to non-payment of invoices; responding promptly and completely to both client and internal enquiries; proposing write off of irrecoverable WIP and disbursements; preparing files for transfer to our solicitors for formal Debt Recovery.

Prior experience

Previous experience of working in a finance department with exposure to credit control. This position would suit an individual who is driven by results and is target driven with a polite but tenacious telephone manner and good systems knowledge.

Technical Excellence

Must have excellent accuracy, literacy and numeracy skills and be a strong communicator.Knowledge and experience in the use of accounting packages and Microsoft Office packages, particularly Excel

Client Service

Credit Controllers have a high level of interaction with external clients, and should role model excellent client service at all times, even when dealing with difficult situations. They should ensure they involve their manager if they are unsure about a situation.

Growth & Development

Credit Controllers receive most of their training on the job, through spending time with other team members or exposure to different areas, however it is important that they identify any areas for development and work with their manager/L&D to fill these. There are opportunities to obtain an external qualification in credit control management, after a solid foundation of work based experience has been achieved.

Team Players

Where allocated, Credit Controllers may take on a Buddy role to help a new starter to adapt to the business. The Credit Controllers should assist their colleagues during busier periods, and if needed carry out relevant administrative duties if wider firm support is unavailable. The credit controllers should offer help and support to junior staff.
